Maria Montessori

Here in Ireland, The name “Montessori” has become synonymous with preschool education. It is however a fully formed holistic approach to children’s education, developed by Dr Maria Montessori. 

Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was an Italian physician and anthropologist who devoted her life to understanding how children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and spiritually. Through careful observations of children in a learning environment, she discovered patterns of development which are found in all children regardless of their culture or the place in which they live.

She developed learning materials which are exclusive to the Montessori classroom, and which support each child’s growth and learning at their own unique pace.  

The Little School celebrates the Montessori way of life with a beautifully presented classroom fully stocked with Montessori Learning Materials and opportunities for all ages to learn. We supplement our classroom based learning with lessons in nature, exploring the woodland areas and working farm on our doorstep.
